Following recent actions against the Cuche, Belle and Hot Pot brands of electric kettles
and their subsequent removal from sale, the Electrical Regulatory Approvals Committee (ERAC)
are investigating incidents involving electric kettles to ascertain the culpability
of the counterfeit controls.

Yong Heng controls fitted to Bodin brand kettles have appeared in
Kruidvat stores in Holland and Belgium. The kettles are being assessed on
safety and patent infringement grounds.

STRIX actions against local manufacturers of counterfeits continues. A recent
sample of JIN XIN, JIN LUN, HOMELINE,
and CONCORD kettles taken from the local
Chinese market was tested for STRIX by VDE Test and Certification body and found
to be unable to comply with the required standards. From 1st May 2003 it became
compulsory for electric kettles made in China for home use or for export to
comply with the required IEC standards. September 17th sees a Joint EU/CHINA
WTO CONFERENCE on China Compulsory Certificate (CCC) and International
Practice on Certification. This will present an opportunity for European companies
to feedback any important effects or problems associated with the new system.

STRIX is taking action against importers of Usha and Inalsa branded
kettles for infringement of Intellectual Property Rights.

Korea |

August 2003
Duplex branded kettles fitted with copies of the STRIX control system have been
withdrawn from the market.
Korean Test Laboratory (KTL) are investigating 5 kettles discovered on the market
fitted with copies of the STRIX system. Brands involved are, Minoya, Nova, Turtle and Unimax.
Further Intellectual Property actions on the infringing are underway against the importers.

Enforcement action by the Energy Commission of Malaysia (ST) is
underway. The newly formed Enforcement Division has advised retailers to
withdraw unsafe kettles.

|
August 2003
STRIX has accepted damages and legal costs from the importer
of "All Ride" kettles which were fitted with copies of the STRIX control
system. The kettles were manufactured by JIN LUN of
Guangzhou in China.

August 2003
"Africa" brand kettles fitted with copies of the STRIX R72/P69 system were
discovered on sale. Agreement has been reached with the importer regarding
future conduct following the cessation of sales.
