| Overview: |
The STRIX U44 control fitted to a compatible heater is an integrated system
for electric heated moka coffee makers. The heater (stainless steel plate or
aluminium die-cast) forms the base of the appliance pressure vessel. The U44 control
provides all electrical connections, control features, and element mounting features
in an easy to install unit.

|
| Functional Description: |
The control is designed for incorporation within the base of a moka coffee
appliance. The system incorporates automatic brew cycle switch off, 2 level
secondary protection against dry switch on, and the
STRIX P72 360º Cordless system.
When switched to the on position the appliance will heat the water and the neon
(if fitted) will illuminate. As air pressure increases in the lower vessel, the
water is forced up through the coffee and into the top vessel. When the lower
vessel is empty, the control will automatically switch off and the neon light
will go out. The trip lever will move to the Off position and the control
will not reset automatically.
|
| Installation: |
- Fit an actuator to the U44 trip lever
- Fit the neon harness to the control / actuator or to bottom cover.
- Clip the back of the control onto the special U44 mounting bracket on the element.
- Using a single screw and washer, secure the control to the heater
- Attach a bottom cover / skirt moulding.
- Install the STRIX P72 contact housing into the cordless base.

| Technical Specification |
| Electrical Rating: |
VOLTAGE: Control: 100V to 240V Heater: 365W at 100V, 120V or 230V
|
| Design Criteria: |
The U44 is designed to satisfy the criteria of EN60335-2-15 and relevant
clauses of EN60730-2-9 for the European variants; and the criteria of UL 1082
and the relevant clauses of UL 873 for the variants for use in the USA. For
Canada the requirements of CAN/CSA E730-2-9 apply. The U44 is intended for
Class 1 appliances only. The use of an earth is mandatory.
|
| Material: |
The U44 main body and trip lever mouldings are flame retardant glass
reinforced nylon compound. The control leaf springs are manufactured
in a copper alloy. The control tabs are brass. The heater plates are either
304 stainless steel or die-cast grade aluminium.
|
| Control Actions: |
The U44 provides automatic switch off when the water is displaced from
the element. The control also provides non-self resetting thermal cut-out
protection in the event of dry switch on or boil dry. In the unlikely
event of a failure of the thermal cut-out, a single operation thermal
fuse has been built into the control. The control trip lever acts as a
user operated on/off mechanism, and incorporates a Lift-Off-Switch-Off mechanism.
|
| Certification: |
Certification to the relevant standards is through BEAB and UL. As with
all component certification, approvals bodies reserve the right to carry
out such tests as they consider necessary to prove the suitability of
the component in the end-use application. In general, component
certification reduces the amount of such testing considered to be necessary.
