Functional Description:
The control is designed for incorporation within the base of a moka matic appliance. The control incorporates automatic boil dry switch off, secondary protection against dry switch on, and the STRIX P72 360º Cordless system.

When switched on the control will heat the water and the neon will illuminate. As air pressure increases in the lower vessel, the water is forced up through the coffee and in to the top vessel. When the lower vessel is empty, the control will automatically switch off and the neon light will go out.
Installation:
  • Locate the seal onto the element.
  • Where appropriate, attach bottom cover / skirt mouldings.
  • Locate the control and element on to the appliance and screw in place. This seals the element to the appliance.
  • Install the STRIX P72 contact housing into the cordless base.
Technical Specification
Electrical Rating:
VOLTAGE: 230V @ 50Hz, 365W or 120V @ 50-60Hz, 365W
Design Criteria:
The U34 is designed to satisfy the criteria of EN60335-2-15 and relevant clauses of EN60730-2-9 for the European variants; and the criteria of UL 1082 and the relevant clauses of UL 873 for the variants for use in the USA. For Canada the requirements of CAN/CSA E730-2-9 apply. The U34 is intended for Class 1 appliances only. The use of an earth is mandatory.
Material:
The main body moulding is flame retardant glass reinforced nylon compound. The element plate is 430S17 stainless steel with a printed element pattern deposited on a glass-ceramic substrate on the underside. The control leaf springs are manufactured in a copper alloy.
Control Actions:
The U34 provides automatic switch off when the water is displaced from the element. The control also provides non-self resetting thermal cut-out protection in the event of dry switch on or boil dry. In the unlikely event of a failure of the thermal cut-out, a self protecting fuse has been built into the element.
Certification:
Certification to the relevant standards has been obtained from BEAB and UL. As with all component certification, approvals bodies reserve the right to carry out such tests as they consider necessary to prove the suitability of the component in the end-use application. In general, component certification reduces the amount of such testing considered to be necessary.
Connectors:
N/A
