STRIX Water Purifier: Aqua Optima Last Updated: 12/12/2003
Overview:
The STRIX Aqua Optima water purifier is specifically designed as a unique safe water purification system that, by the use of food grade ion exchange resin and activated carbon generates best in class flow rate performance in the reduction of common water impurities. The water purifier may be fitted to water heating appliances or may be used in cold water appliances such as fridge jugs.

Features/Benefits:
  • Reduction of undesirable or harmful constituents within drinking water
  • Water Hardness (Limescale)
Water hardness is reduced by the presence of an ion exchange resin in the purifier. This reduces the amount of calcium and magnesium present in the water. In addition the ion exchange resin also reduces the amount of carbonate present. It is the combination of calcium and carbonate present in the water which allows the formation of limescale in water systems and domestic appliances, as well as "scum" formed in hot drinks.
  • Chlorine
The activated carbon in the purifier reduces the amount of chlorine present in the water. Chlorine is normally added to drinking water to sterilise it, but this results in the water having a bad taste. The chlorine can also react with organic material producing by-products which can have harmful effects. Chlorination has recently been shown in studies to be linked to a number of detrimental health effects.
  • Taste & Odour
Bad taste and odour is reduced by the activated carbon. This typically results from the presence of chlorine, organic material and sediments or particulates, all of which are reduced by the water purifier.
  • Metals e.g. lead, aluminium, copper
The presence of a number of metals in drinking water can be harmful. In particular the presence of lead in the drinking water supply can lead to serious health effects. The use of ion exchange resin in the purifier reduces the amount of these materials present in the water.
  • Particulates e.g. sediment, rust
Particulates such as sand, sediment and rust may all be present in the water supply. These can produce water which is cloudy, coloured or with bad taste. The activated carbon and ion exchange resin in the purifier helps to remove all of these bad elements and improve the clarity of the water.
  • Organics e.g. herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers
The presence of herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers and many other organic compounds may occur through the widespread use of these materials. Almost all of these compounds are hazardous to human health. The very high surface area of the activated carbon used in the purifier traps these materials and removes them from the water.
  • Bacteriostatic (inhibits growth of bacteria)
To control the presence of bacteria in the water purifier system, the activated carbon is coated with silver that acts as a bacteriostatic. This prevents the growth of bacteria in the purifier.
  • Maintains desirable or beneficial constituents within drinking water
  • Fluoride
The presence of fluoride in drinking water has significant benefits in the prevention of dental caries. Fluoride is deliberately added to the drinking water and the amount present in the water is not reduced by the action of the water purifier.
  • Sodium & Potassium
The presence of trace quantities of these minerals in drinking water contributes to the recommended daily intake necessary for health. The purifier works on an ion exchange principle that does not alter the amount of these materials present
  • Purifies one litre of water within the boiling time of the heating appliance (typically less than 3 mins)
  • Retains purification capability for 120 litres of water or one month usage
  • Ease of installation
Functional Description:
  • The STRIX Aqua Optima water purifier has been designed to fit into both water heating appliances and cold water drinking/storage appliances.
  • Water to be purified is directed into the filter medium cartridge, where it passes through a filter bed of activated carbon & ion exchange resin. The filtered water exits from the cartridge via an outlet in the base and into the appliance either for heating or cold water drinking/storage.
  • The unique design of the filter system allows hot water heating appliances to be activated immediately after the introduction of tap/mains water allowing a combined filtration and heat sequence, minimising the overall total cycle time. This is due to the fast and efficient filtration action.
Installation:
The water purifier is fitted to the appliance by a unique patented system comprising a seal and bayonet type fixing.
