The Strix U17 is specifically designed to give protection to concealed heating elements. Mounted directly onto the underside of conventional concealed heating elements, all variants are designed for use with the Strix R48 remote steam switch and to interface with the Strix P72 for cordless applications only. The U17 features 2 levels of dry protection, one in each pole, protecting against boiling until dry and accidental dry switch on. The optional U17 LOR features non-cycling dry protection, which is reset by removing and replacing the kettle on the cordless base.
