On the 29th March, 2004 a presentation was made to the Department of
Trade & Industry by STRIX Ltd. to commemorate the Company's delivery
of their 500 millionth water boiling control. The presentation was of a
statue representing the STRIX owl emblem. STRIX translates from the Latin
for "Screech Owl" and it is due to their wise decision making as well as
the courage to "spread their wings" that has led STRIX to become a market
leader.
Alex Downie, the Trade and Industry Minister said "I am delighted to
receive this gift on behalf of the Department. STRIX is one of the
Island's leading businesses and a global success story. The Department
has a long and close relationship with STRIX and I look forward to this
continuing for many years to come."
Eddie Davies, the Chairman of STRIX said "I am very proud of this 500 million
controls milestone. However, we are not resting on our laurels. With support
from the Department of Trade & Industry, STRIX has created a state of the
art control manufacturing facility in Ramsey which has unit production
costs lower than in China. Also, our research and development facility in
Ronaldsway has developed a new water filter product that has already sold
over a million units. I believe the Island and STRIX will have a long and
successful future together."
STRIX employs over 330 people on the Island. It has 70% of the world's
market for heating controls, such as in kettles. Its products are used
over a billion times a day. STRIX has won four Queen's Awards for Industry.
