From intelligence gained from its
worldwide sales force, STRIX Limited were
able to prevent the importation of kettles
fitted with copies of their patented
cordless connector system.
STRIX were able to identify the importer
and prevent the kettles, made by Jin Lun
from Guangzhou, China, entering the UK.
Importer, Quadrant Housewares, from Milton
Keynes, upon being advised of the situation
refused to accept the consignment, and are
taking steps to recover costs from their
supplier. The shipment has been returned to
China.
The copy connection system was made by Yong
Heng from Shunde, Guangdong Province in
China.
This event closely follows similar actions
in Australia and South Africa. The same
kettle made by Jin Lun was recently the
subject of action in Australia and the
importer Saab Appliances, returned the
product to China and cancelled future
orders.
In South Africa Hi-Fi Corporation in
Johannesburg agreed out of court to stop
the sale and cancel future orders for
kettles fitted with the offending Yong Heng
cordless connection systems.
The message to importers is clear. If the
local market situation demands that you
source low cost kettles be sure that you
check out carefully your chosen
supplier.
Imported copies can bring with them
attendant safety issues and non-compliance
with standards.
STRIX would be happy to advise on the
Intellectual Property and safety
implications of potential kettle imports,
but at the very least recommends
consultation with patent attorneys if there
is any doubt.
