Strix translates from Latin as ‘screech owl’ and it is the wise decision-making as well as the courage to spread our wings that has led Strix to its current position as world market leader.

Castletown Thermostats was founded on the Isle of Man, designing and manufacturing thermostatic controls for small domestic appliances.
The 80s
1982 – Strix emerged from Castletown Thermostats and became a company in its own right under John Taylor, son of Castletown Thermostats founder: Eric Taylor
1984 – Eddie Davies was appointed Managing Director
1985/1986 – The R-series (immersed technology) and P-series (cordless technology) were launched across both the UK and the world
1988 – Strix produced its 10 millionth control
1989 – Strix opened its first overseas office in Hong Kong
